Those lucky enough to be allowed to explore in paradisiacal Bali might bump into a unique Eddy Merckx fixie on a blue Monday. Owner is 28-year-old Wayan Ariawan Codi - we may say Codi - from Denpasar. ‘For me, cycling is the solution to avoid traffic jams. On my Eddy, I unwind,’ he smiles.

Rachel van Le Coffee Ride Tackles a Volcano During a Bikepacking Trip in Sicily: “We Could Only See a Few Meters Ahead Among the Lava Rocks”

When you think of Sicily, images of Mount Etna, arancini, or the Trinacria symbol might come to mind, but rarely cycling. However, the lunar landscape around the volcano offers a fantastic terrain for adventurous gravel bikers. When we heard that Rachel Cornet from Le Coffee Ride ventured out in November with her friend Anne to tackle a variation of the Sicily Divide, we were eager to hear about her experiences. “Climbing Monte Soro in dense fog was a truly unique experience,” she enthusiastically recounts.

Jef Van Aerde Owns the Third Oldest Eddy Merckx Ever Made: “This Bike Has Seen the World”

When Eddy Merckx Bikes came to life in 1980, it was written in the stars who would receive the first bikes. Super-domestique Frans Mintjens had spent years giving his all for the Cannibal, and his brother Karel was the driving force behind a cycling team. The first twelve Eddy Merckx bikes went to this cheerful group of cyclists. Jef Van Aerde (77) was one of those cycling friends. He was the third to receive his bike. He still has it, and over time, it has accumulated countless stories. We visited Jef to see with our own eyes "the oldest surviving Eddy Merckx bike."

Photoshoot: light blue Pévèle by the water

We took a light blue Pévèle C in gravel setup out for a shoot near the water and are happy to share the results! The Pévèle is an ode to Eddy's 3 victories in Paris-Roubaix. Using the legendary 3 km cobbled section in Mons-en-Pévèle as a test reference, the Pévèle is the all-time all-road machine.

"What a brutal race!" - 2024 Gravel World Championship recap

On 6 October 2024, Leuven transformed to the World Gravel Capital. The best pro riders and amateurs from over of the world gathered to compete the World Gravel Championship. Among the 292 elite riders who came to the start, there were four riders from Team Flanders - Baloise. Alex Colman, Lars Craps, Dylan Vandenstorme and Gilles De Wilde rode the World Championship on an Eddy Merckx Pévèle.

About the Eddy Merckx geometry

At first glance, there don't seem to be many differences between the 525 and the Mendrisio or between the Pévèle and the Strasbourg. Yet the bike's focus is elsewhere each time, partly the result of sophisticated geometry. We sat down with our product developers and immersed ourselves in the secrets behind this game of millimetres: ‘Once we had our master welder Johan Vranckx weld a frame to experience for himself what a new geometry would do.’
