Social Ride to Eddy Merckx Mural

  • News
Last Thursday, June 13th, we organized a social ride around the Baloise Belgium Tour. Starting from our factory in Beringen, we explored the final stage of the third leg to Scherpenheuvel and stopped at the large mural of Eddy Merckx.

The Belgian Cycling Factory was hosting its third social ride. This time, the friendly gathering among cycling enthusiasts was entirely dedicated to Eddy Merckx. We scouted the Baloise Belgium Tour, which was set to arrive in Hageland the following day. In doing so, we set a good example for our friends at Team Flanders-Baloise, who lead the Flandrien Super 8 classification in this race. Our community rode over the cobblestones of Kerkstraat and checked out the final straight. Everyone was welcome, even those without an Eddy Merckx bike. BCF ambassador FatPigeon captured some great footage.

Kiezegem

We also passed through Kiezegem, the birthplace of our namesake Eddy Merckx. Earlier this year, a new mural was added to the facade of café 't Klein Verlet, an initiative by Tourism Flemish Brabant to highlight cycling. A cycling route dedicated to Eddy Merckx already ran through the village, and there was already a statue; now he also graces the streetscape with a large mural.

The Cannibal grew up fifty meters from the mural. Later, he moved to Sint-Pieters-Woluwe but continued to visit his grandparents in his hometown regularly and often spent vacations there. When he was twelve years old, he raced his first competition there, in which he was lapped. He would later more than make up for that defeat.

Next social ride

One thing all participants agreed on: this was not the last social ride of BCF! We have a lot of exciting events planned. Those who wish to join us next time will be informed of all the details via our website and social media channels in due course!
